SARTA riders will still have to wear masks

June 2, 2021

CANTON – The public will still have to wear masks on Stark Area Regional Transit Authority vehicles even though the state of Ohio’s mask mandate expires Wednesday, SARTA CEO Kirt Conrad said.

He issued the reminder Tuesday because people may believe the end of the state’s mask mandate applies to SARTA.

“The U.S. Department of Transportation, the Transportation Security Agency and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have extended their orders requiring people to wear masks in transportation settings, including at airports, on commercial aircraft, and on buses and trains until Sept. 13,” Conrad said in a prepared statement. “SARTA is required by law to comply with those orders, and we will continue to observe the mask protocols.”
